Belk’s new warehouse to bring 124 jobs to Union
UNION, S.C. (AP) — Department store chain Belk says it is opening a new warehouse and order center in South Carolina, bringing 124 jobs to Union County.
Belk says it will spend $4.5 million converting a warehouse left empty for more than a year after the Walt Disney Co. decided to leave the area. The company hopes to open its new facility in June.
Belk says the new Union County warehouse is an extension of its Internet order fulfillment center in Pineville, N.C.
Union County officials are welcoming the new jobs to a place severely hurt by the loss of textile plants. The county had the fourth highest unemployment rate in South Carolina in December at 15.5 percent.
