Giving Youth a Fighting Chance

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., –If you have a child that is heading down the wrong path, a new no nonsense martial arts class may be the answer you’re searching for. Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy Lance Adams says he has been teaching martial arts for the last 15 years. Recently, he decided to use those skills to reach out to area youth who have issues with aggression find new ways to channel their emotions. The C.H.A.N.C.E Youth Diversion Program, which stands for changing habitual actions through non violent combat arts and education, is a 10 week program for youngsters between the ages of 10 to 16. Teaching them Fudo Shin Jujitsu and other forms of martial arts that Adams says the program is not going to coddle your child, instead it helps them find more constructive ways to deal with their problems instead of fighting. C.H.A.N.C.E is not only physical. Adams says it will also offer group sessions so the students can learn how to talk out what they’re feeling.
