SC-based charter airline cancels flights

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina-based public charter airline Direct Air has canceled all flights and there is no word on when they might resume.

Myrtle Beach International airport director Mike LaPier said all operations by Direct Air were suspended Monday night.

LaPier said flights were canceled because of a fueling issue.

It was unclear how many people were affected. The airline serves 17 cities in the East and Midwest.

There was no answer at Direct Air telephones early Tuesday. LaPier said a statement was expected Tuesday.

Allan Pilkey was stranded in Myrtle Beach and learned he would not be flying home late Monday afternoon. Pilkey was headed to the Niagara Falls, N.Y., on his way to the Toronto area.

He says he was not given any options or reasons for the canceled flight.
