Air Force, Navy tap honorary Charleston commanders
JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Some 35 business and community leaders are becoming honorary commanders of Air Force and Navy units at Joint Base Charleston.
Air Force spokeswoman 1st Lt. Susan Carlson says the volunteers serve in the posts for a year. They participate in their specific military units’ social and ceremonial activities and share their experiences with the community.
During Wednesday’s ceremonies, the inductees meet with Joint Base Commander Col. Richard McComb and Col. Erik Hansen, the commander of the 437th Airlift Wing. The two officers will administer the oath of office to the inductees.
The honorary leaders get briefings about missions conducted by base personnel. They also tour a C-17 transport aircraft and meet members of an explosives disposal unit.
