Motorist shoots, kills man who tries to get in car

LADSON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a motorist has shot and killed a man who tried to carjack his vehicle in Ladson.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting occurred early Wednesday when a motorist stopped at a red light at an intersection on U.S. 78 and a vehicle pulled up behind his car.

Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady says at least one person got out of that car and walked up and tugged at the door handle of the motorist’s car.

Brady said the motorist feared a carjacking and shot at the suspect and drove off, later stopping and calling 911.

Authorities have not identified anyone involved. They are looking for the second car and its occupants.
