Goose Creek couple charged in child’s asthma death
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A Goose Creek couple has been arrested and accused of not doing enough to prevent the asthma death of the woman’s daughter.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/Aw9P7p ) 32-year-old Harmony McAmis and 35-year-old Joshua Mashburn have been charged with neglect.
Eight-year-old Jillyn McAmis died Sept. 13 at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Charleston from complications of asthma.
Investigators say the couple had taken the girl to Trident Medical Center two days earlier and she was unresponsive and turning blue.
Police say the couple failed to give the girl breathing treatment or to use a nebulizer and mask. They also failed to give her a rescue inhaler.
The couple is being held in the Berkeley County jail. It was unclear if they have an attorney.
