International teachers visiting at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Teachers from around the world are at Clemson University this semester to learn more about teaching in America.

This is the fourth year that Clemson has taken part in the International Leaders in Education Program that also places teachers at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, James Madison University and Kent State University.

The teachers were nominated by their home countries before going through a yearlong selection process and U.S. State Department screening. The effort is funded by an $185,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State and Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The 16 teachers at Clemson this semester come from countries including Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa and Uganda. They are doing internships at area schools and are at Clemson through May.
