SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) — The Air Force’s largest F-16 combat fighter wing is getting a new commander at South Carolina’s Shaw Air Force Base.
Air Force spokeswoman 1st Lt. Ann Blodzinski says Col. Clay Hall takes command of the 20th Fighter Wing at a ceremony on Monday.
Hall is arriving at the installation outside Sumter after serving as the 455th Expeditionary Operations Group commander at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. He takes over from Col. Charlie Moore, whose next assignment is commanding the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
The 20th Fighter Wing is composed of 19 squadrons. It includes three squadrons of F-16CJ Fighting Falcons or about 80 aircraft. The unit has more than 6,000 military and 1,000 civilians in its ranks.
