Anderson County man dies in brush fire

TOWNVILLE, S.C. (AP) — An Anderson County man has died while fighting a brush fire on his property.

Deputy Coroner Josh Shore says 64-year-old James Alex Cefaloni of Townville and his wife and two neighbors tried to stop a brush fire near Lake Hartwell on Wednesday with buckets of water and a fire extinguisher.

James Cefaloni was burning a small pile of leaves about 50 feet from his home when wind gusts spread the flames.

Shore said the fire grew and Jan Cefaloni was unable to find her husband.

The Townville Fire Department controlled the blaze and found James Cefaloni’s body.

An autopsy was planned Thursday to determine the cause of death.
