Ex-Justice O’Connor to hear cases in Greenville
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor is in South Carolina this week presiding over several cases with the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The Greenville News reports (http://grnol.co/GC4qpV) that O’Connor is sitting on a three-judge panel hearing six cases in federal court in Greenville.
The cases being argued Thursday and Friday include the appeal of one of the men convicted in the “3 Hebrew Boys” scam. Joseph Brunson and two others were sentenced to decades in prison after being found guilty of fleecing thousands of people out of more than $80 million.
O’Connor is also meeting with school children, meeting with Federal Bar Association members and sitting in on a mock trial session at Furman University. The 81-year-old Reagan appointee retired from the court in 2006.
