Police: Fake cop trying to cash bad checks in SC

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man posing as a police officer is trying to cash fake checks across Horry County.

Horry County police say the man cashed checks on Feb. 28 on a fake account from Grand Strand Medical Center, telling the clerk he was either a state trooper or a state narcotics agent doing part-time security work for the hospital.

Investigators say the same man tried to cash a check at a different store the day before, but the clerk got suspicious and refused to give him the money.

Police say the man is being driven by a woman in a Ford Crown Victoria.
