3 women raped at gunpoint at Lander University

GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) — Investigators say two armed men sexually assaulted three female students at a campus apartment complex at Lander University.

Authorities said the men knocked on the apartment door around 11 p.m. Wednesday, then forced their way inside when one of the women cracked open the door.

Investigators say the men threatened to shoot the women after one of them screamed. All three women were taken to the hospital after the attack, but have since been released.

Lander University President Dan Ball is urging anyone with information to come forward. He says someone had to let the attackers into the locked complex before they could have knocked on the victims’ door.

Police have increased patrols at the Greenwood university, which has about 3,000 students.
