Horry County hosting firefighter training
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Firefighters are going to camp in Horry County to show how they earned their responsibilities.
A three-day training camp gets started on Friday at the Horry County Fire Rescue Socastee Station in Myrtle Beach. Teams from across the Carolinas, Virginia, Florida, Massachusetts, Alabama and Pennsylvania are scheduled to participate.
The event is intended as training for the upcoming Combat Challenge competitions, which tests firefighter skills and physical fitness.
Wearing full gear and air packs, pairs of fire fighters race through a simulation that includes climbing a tower and rescuing a life-sized dummy. One of the competitions is set for next month in North Charleston.
