Man accused of SC child abuse arrested at LAX
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 25-year-old man accused of fondling children in South Carolina has been arrested in Los Angeles after attempting to re-enter the country on a flight from Korea.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Jaime Ruiz says Robert Briggs was arrested Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport as he arrived on a flight from a Seoul, Korea.
Briggs was met planeside by officers after his identity was flagged by a national system for tracking wanted fugitives.
Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Ivey in Spartanburg County, South Carolina says Briggs is charged with fondling a girl under the age of 11 in 2009.
The alleged crime was reported on Sept. 27, 2011, and a warrant was issued for Briggs after he failed to meet with investigators assigned to the case.
