Man gets 30-year maximum for shooting officer
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A man who allegedly shot a Spartanburg police officer as several policemen tried to arrest him has been sentenced to the maximum of 30 years in prison.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg (http://bit.ly/GX7lVN ) reports that 33-year-old Toby Moore was found guilty Friday of four counts of attempted murder in the January 2011 shooting.
Jason Harris was part of a tactical team trying to arrest Moore. After he was hit by gunfire, his fellow officers shot back, killing one person in the home and wounding another. Moore was not hit.
Moore’s lawyer says the dead man, 26-year-old William Rodgers II, fired at officers and Moore did not shoot.
Moore also was convicted of several drug charges.
