Rallies in Greenville, Columbia for slain Fla teen

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Hundreds of people have turned out for rallies in Greenville and Columbia to call for justice in the killing of a 17-year-old man in Florida.

The “Hoodie March” in both cities were arranged over social media Saturday to protest the killing of Trayvon Martin. Authorities say the black teen was shot to death last month in Sanford, Fla., by a neighborhood watch captain in a gated Sanford, Fla., community. Investigators say Martin was walking unarmed after buying iced tea and Skittles at a convenience store.

Many people at the rallies carried bags of Skittles and wore hooded sweat shirts, like the one Martin wore when he was killed.

One protester in Columbia carried a sign that had a gun made out of Skittles with the message: “Taste the danger.”
