Bob Jones University claims Bruin as sports mascot

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Bob Jones University’s plans to launch an intercollegiate sports program are taking a new step by identifying the mascot for its teams.

WYFF reported (http://bit.ly/GNHyAa ) reports the Greenville school will be known as the Bruins. The mascot and new logo were unveiled late Friday.

The bear mascot was one of more than 100 ideas submitted by students, faculty and alumni to a selection committee.

Bob Jones University said In December it intends to compete as a Division I school in the National Christian College Athletic Association beginning with the coming academic year. The school will field men’s and women’s soccer teams in August, and men’s and women’s intercollegiate basketball later in the year.
