Gamecock Fans React to Frank Martin Hiring
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “I think it’s a good change,” says Sonny Martin, Gamecock fan. “I’m excited they have a new, fresh start now,” says Bridget Caffery, Gamecock fan. When it comes to basketball, Gamecock fans are ready for a change. Tuesday, they got what they asked for as Frank Martin was named the new head coach of the men’s basketball squad. “I think it’s a great hire, I think it’s a great, I think he brings some different tangibles,” says Scott Sumner, Gamecock fan. “I’m excited that they’ve got a new coach, I hope that they can really take off,” says Caffery “I think it’s a good hire,” says Martin. Now fans say they are ready to see what Martin can do with what many are calling a failing program. “I know that’s he’s a very good recruiter, being from the North, I think he’s going to bring a different, uh, a different game with him,” says Sumner. Frank Martin as you may know, is known for the stare down and some fans think the so-called intimidation tactics will work. “I mean, it is what it is,” says Caffery “If that’s what he likes, that’s what he likes,” says Somner. Crandall Sims reporting, “Here on campus, students are also talking…they too are excited about the changes that Frank Martin can bring to the USC Basketball program.” “I’m excited about him, I’m glad he’s now a Gamecock,” says Patrick Paunkett, USC Student. “Kansas State, they’ve made the tournament the past four years and we haven’t made the tournament in who know’s how long,” says Joshua Parker, USC Student. Now all that’s left is to see what changes come. “He’s great, I hope he leads us to a victory next year,” says Paunkett “I’m excited honestly, he did a good job at Kansas State, um still trying to kind of shocked at how we got him,” says Parker. “I’m looking forward to what he brings to the table, hopefully we can get the basketball team on track as same as the football team and the great baseball team,” says Somner. “I hope they can really take off, I want them to get a great season going, I hope they can do as well as the girls maybe next year,” says Caffery.
