Teen to be tried as adult in Columbia beating

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Family Court judge has ruled that a 15-year-old teen will be tried as an adult in the beating of an 18-year-old man in Columbia last summer.

The decision Wednesday came in the case of a suspect who was 14 at the time that Carter Strange was beaten in the Five Points section of Columbia last June.

Seven juveniles and a 19-year-old have been charged.

The latest suspect is charged with strong armed robbery, assault and battery by mob second degree and criminal conspiracy.

Four juveniles have pleaded guilty to failure to report a crime and were placed on probation.

Another 15-year-old will be tried in Family Court.

Twenty-year-old Tyheem Henry and a 17-year-old suspect are awaiting trial as adults.

Strange’s mother says her son continues to recover.
