Airman’s son dies in accident at SC home

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — An Anderson woman whose husband was killed in a terrorist attack in Germany is dealing with a family tragedy again as her 2-year-old son suffocated when a dresser fell on him.

Authorities say William Alden was trying to reach something on top of a dresser that then fell on him. Deputy Anderson County coroner Don McCown says the boy lived at the home with his mother, Patricia Brooks Alden, and his 5-year-old sister.

The boy’s father was Senior Airman Nick Alden of Williamston, who was 25 when he was killed in March 2011 outside an airport in Frankfurt, Germany, by an Islamic terrorist. The family was preparing Saturday to leave for vacation when the accident occurred.

Authorities say the boy’s death was an accident and no charges will be filed.
