STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State has hired Clemson assistant Rick Ray to be its next men’s basketball coach. The 40-year-old Ray has been the top assistant at Clemson for the past two seasons. Ray replaces Rick Stansbury, who announced his retirement in March after 14 seasons leading the program.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Former Tulsa men’s basketball coach Doug Wojcik (WOH’-chik) has been hired to lead the men’s basketball program at the College of Charleston. Wojcik spent seven seasons at Tulsa but never took the Golden Hurricane to the NCAA Tournament.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Michael Jordan says he’s 100 percent committed to the Charlotte Bobcats and has no intention of selling the struggling NBA franchise. The New York Daily News reported Sunday that Jordan has contemplated selling if the team doesn’t turn things around — both in performance and profitability.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — Ryan Newman has snapped a 22-race winless streak with a wild victory at Martinsville Speedway. He grabbed the lead when a three-wide accident took out teammates Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson with two laps to go. Gordon led for 328 laps but finished 14th.
