Ex-York County councilman begins federal sentence

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — A former York County councilman has begun serving an 18-month sentence for lying on a mortgage application.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports (http://bit.ly/Hpgtki) Paul Lindemann is being held at a federal prison in Bennettsville.

Lindemann pleaded guilty to a charge he falsely claimed a monthly income of nearly $36,000 to qualify for a loan of nearly $1 million.

Lindemann defaulted, and the bank foreclosed on a house Lindemann said he was planning to resell. The court ordered him to repay a woman who invested money in the property.

Lindemann was elected in 2006 and lost a 2010 re-election bid. A judge allowed Lindemann to delay his sentence to be with his wife for the birth of a child, but he was ordered to jail after a January DUI arrest.
