Organizers cap 2013 Bridge Run at 40,000
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Organizers of the Cooper River Bridge Run and Walk have capped next year’s race at 40,000.
Race board chairman Ken Ayoub told the Post and Courier of Charleston (http://bit.ly/HtUzgq ) he doesn’t expect the limit to be permanent. The board also plans to hire a logistics manager to look at better ways to get people from downtown to the race’s starting line in Mount Pleasant.
This year’s race started more than an hour late due to problems getting runners the start. There were also communication problems and water shortages.
More than 44,000 people registered for this year’s event, which was the race’s 35th year. One of the ten largest 10-K races in the nation, the course takes runners across the sweeping Ravenel Bridge and into the streets of downtown Charleston.
