Company to allow SC bar to fly US flag again
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Officials with a company that owns a bar in downtown Charleston say they’re examining their decision to remove the U.S. and POW/MIA flags from outside the building.
The Post and Courier in Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/I6Z99r) that the Beach Co. ordered the Chucktown Tavern last months to remove the two banners from flag poles so that the company’s all-green banners could go back up, prompting complaints.
The Beach Co. says it only has approval from the city to fly solid green and red banners at the location. It says it will expedite a formal application to allow other flags to be displayed, and officials apologized for the misunderstanding.
Since South Carolina law allows the U.S. flag to fly regardless of zoning laws, officials say the American flag will be raised soon.
