SC museum hopes to move caboose to train station

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — The Hub City Railroad Museum wants to move a Southern Railways caboose to the Magnolia Street Station in hopes of attracting more railroad enthusiasts to Spartanburg.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported (http://bit.ly/I7wA8D) that museum officials will request the city’s support during the Spartanburg City Council’s meeting Monday.

Museum general manager Frank Ezell says the museum wants to repaint and refurbish the caboose to attract railroad fans to Spartanburg.

Ezell says museum supporters plan to raise between $25,000 and $30,000 to cover the cost of renovations. They also are asking for financial support from the city.

The caboose was built in Spartanburg in 1947 and served the Knoxville, Tenn., area until returning to Spartanburg when the Cleveland family acquired it. Businessman Dexter Cleveland donated the caboose to the museum.
