Aflac to add 400 workers in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Supplemental insurance company Aflac plans to add 400 workers to its Columbia operation.

The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/IxFYSI) that company officials said Wednesday they plan to nearly double their work force to about 825 employees by the end of the year.

The Columbus, Ga.-based company started its group supplemental insurance program in Columbia more than two years ago when it bought Continental American Insurance Co. for $100 million.

Aflac spokesman Jon Sullivan says the group supplemental insurance allows the company to market to larger businesses. Aflac originally only sold individual supplemental coverage.

Aflac is hiring for a range of positions, including call-center specialists, claims processors, managers, supervisors and business analysts.
