Cops: Pelion teen left 2-year-old boy alone to die

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Lexington County teen caused head trauma that would eventually kill a 2-year-old boy, then left the toddler alone for hours for his father to find unconscious.

Deputies said 17-year-old Desiree Almgren is charged with homicide by child abuse in the Sunday death of the boy in a Pelion home.

Investigators say the teen was watching the child for her boyfriend while he worked. When the father came home, Almgren was gone. The boy appeared to be asleep, but the father couldn’t wake him up. The boy died two hours later at the hospital, and an autopsy found bleeding on his brain.

Almgren is being held without bond. It wasn’t clear if she had a lawyer.
