Fire heavily damages Anderson apartment building

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — A large fire has heavily damaged a three-story apartment building in Anderson.

Authorities said the fire began around 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Walden Oaks apartment complex.

Paramedics took one person to the hospital, and crews are going through the building to make sure all the residents are accounted for.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for at least three miles.

Officials say at least 18 apartments were damaged, and the building’s roof is gone.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
