Georgia Comes Back To Beat Clemson 8-7

CLEMSON, S.C. (UGA SID) — Georgia erased an early 7-2 deficit to post an 8-7 win over Clemson Wednesday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Bulldogs (20-13) scored six runs on four hits in the fifth to rally past the Tigers who dropped to 19-15. Catcher Phil Pohl gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first on a run-scoring single following a one-out double by centerfielder Thomas Brittle. Clemson chased Georgia freshman right-hander David Sosebee in the second with a four-run outburst. Steve Wilkerson delivered a two-run triple and Brittle added a two-run blast for a 5-0 advantage. Georgia pushed across a pair of runs in the fourth to trim the deficit to 5-2. Conor Welton and Brandon Stephens registered an RBI off of Daniel Gossett. Clemson responded in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs off Ross Ripple to build its lead back to five at 7-2. The Bulldogs got to Gossett in the fifth, loading the bases with one out. Pinch-hitter Colby May delivered a two-run single and Clemson went to its bullpen in freshman Patrick Andrews. Freshman Justin Bryan drew a walk to load the bases again and then Andrews struck out Welton . Stephens came through again with a two-run single to bring Georgia to within one at 7-6. Third baseman Curt Powell tied the game with a run-scoring single and Georgia claimed an 8-7 lead when Stephens scored on a wild pitch.
