SC inquest jury agrees with suicide ruling
CHESTERFIELD, S.C. (AP) — A jury at a coroner’s inquest in Chesterfield County has agreed with investigators that a 34-year-old Army veteran committed suicide in his home.
Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee presided over Thursday’s hearing. Jurors heard less than an hour of testimony, then deliberated about 15 minutes.
Authorities say gunshot residue was on Tyson “Lane” Lowery’s hands when he was found dead from a gunshot wound to his head at his home in November. Investigators say they found a suicide note.
The six jurors heard testimony from Lowery’s wife and officials involved in the investigation. They did not hear from Lowery’s mother, who heard him making plans for the future. They didn’t hear from anyone who disagreed with what came out in the official investigation.
