SC man sentenced to up to 18 years in Wyo. slaying

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A South Carolina man will spend between 13 and 18 years in prison for the slaying of a carnival worker in Wyoming.

Thirty-one-year-old Bradley O. Petty was sentenced Thursday in Cheyenne on one count of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Jerry Moshier. He previously pleaded no contest under a deal with prosecutors.

Moshier worked for a carnival at Cheyenne Frontier Days and his body was found in a lake on Aug. 4, 2010.

Authorities say Petty put Mosher in a chokehold until he became unconscious before putting him in the lake. Court documents say he also took $34 from Moshier’s wallet.

District attorney Scott Homar told the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle (http://bit.ly/IQMXbx ) that the only evidence prosecutors had was the testimony of a woman who was with them at the time.
