Annual Iron Mike Bike Tour set at Parris Island
PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Pedestrians and bicyclists can see for themselves what the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island looks like.
The Iron Mike Bike Tour, a self-guided, 15-mile bicycle trip around Parris Island, is scheduled for Saturday. It’s sponsored by the Parris Island Historical and Museum Society.
Visitors will be able to see everything from the sites of French and Spanish settlements of the 1500s to the air field where Marines used to train to fly fighter planes and dive bombers during World War II.
In addition to the bike tour, there is a 3-mile walking tour of some of the sites at the base.
