National Park Week marked by 2 SC events

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — Mount Pleasant is hosting two events at Charles Pinckney National Historic Site to mark National Park Week.

The celebration begins on Friday with Colonial Day.

During the event there are demonstrations of pounding rice, dying indigo and iron-smithing. There will also be musket drills and sweetgrass basket weaving.

On Saturday, it’s Junior Ranger Day featuring children’s activities and colonial games such as lawn hoops and historic cricket. Kids can also wear colonial dress and dye handkerchiefs with indigo. The programs are free and the park changes no admission.
