SC school bus driver charged with DUI after crash

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A Lexington County school bus driver has been charged with driving under the influence and child endangerment after a crash that involved three buses.

Police say 61-year-old Walter Davidson was arrested Thursday after causing the crash at Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School. Police say Davidson’s bus hit a parked bus, pushing it into a third bus waiting to pick up students around 2:30 that afternoon.

Students were on the buses. Authorities initially said none of them were injured, but several parents later reported their children had headaches or back pain.

WIS-TV reported Friday that Davidson’s blood-alcohol level was 0.20 — more than two times the legal limit.

It wasn’t known if Davidson had an attorney. He has been placed on leave by Lexington School District 3.
