Cops: Ex-Deputy stole drugs from evidence room

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a former Florence County deputy has been fired and arrested after stealing drugs from the evidence room at the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Kenney Boone said the investigation into 29-year-old Adam Moore began Tuesday when he crashed his county-owned vehicle and drugs were found in it.

Boone says Moore was charged with misconduct in office, possession of a controlled substance and theft of controlled substance after investigators questioned him The sheriff says Moore stole drugs from closed cases that were about to be destroyed.

At a bond hearing Friday, Moore cried, saying he has a problem and he is sorry he brought dishonor to the sheriff’s office.

Moore was a crime scene technician hired in 2001 who was once named the investigator of the year for his agency.
