Six-year-old Murder Case Solved
Columbia, SC (WOLO)– Three people have been arrested and charged with the 2005 murder of Tony Corbitt, and the victim’s family says they always knew those responsible would be apprehended. Richland County investigators say Vernorris Dixon, Gregg Isaac, and Tavares World have all been charged with murder in the death of Tony Corbitt. Corbitt was shot and killed on October 27, 2005, during a robbery attempt at his Willow Creek apartment on Fernandina Rd., in Columbia. After nearly seven years of unanswered questions, a break in the case came when authorities re-examined a picture of a fingerprint that was lifted at the scene. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says that piece of evidence was never identified. It was entered into a statewide database and a match was discovered. In addition to forensic evidence says deputies also obtained a confession. A former SLED fingerprinting expert and former police chief from Camden, both of whom are now employed with the RCSD, discovered the game-changing evidence. Corbitt’s family says they never gave up hope.
