2 homes destroyed, others damaged on Dewees Island
ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (AP) — Two homes have been destroyed and several others damaged on Dewees (DAH-wees) Island northeast of Charleston.
The island next to the Isle of Palms is accessible only by water and fire crews had to be ferried to the island with its upscale development when the fire broke out Tuesday night. Some residents used garden hoses to try to put out the fire until crews arrived.
No injuries have been reported.
One of the homes destroyed was under construction while the second was being renovated.
Investigators from the Isle of Palms Fire Department are trying to determine the cause.
