Atlantic Beach may expand motorcycle rally
ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Officials in Atlantic Beach have decided to extend their annual BikeFest motorcycle rally by a week next month.
The council voted Tuesday to have the Memorial Day Bikefest activities run from May 18 to May 28.
Councilman Jake Evans says vendors will be licensed to sell merchandise and food as part of the festival for the entire 11-day event.
Paul Curry of Atlantic Beach says the town may make extra money because of the longer festival, but he says it could affect neighboring communities.
North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling said officials there didn’t know Atlantic Beach was considering extending the festival until Tuesday’s vote. Dowling says North Myrtle Beach police had talked with Atlantic Beach police last week and were told there would be no changes this year.
