Smiley, West visiting SC to promote new book

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are visiting South Carolina to discuss their book on poverty.

West and Smiley are scheduled on Wednesday to make an appearance on the Orangeburg campus of South Carolina State University. They are planning to talk about “The Rich and the Rest of Us: A Poverty Manifesto.”

The duo hosts a radio show. West is a Princeton University professor. Smiley hosts a TV talk show. Last year, the men launched a multi-city “Poverty Tour” to bring attention to the needy and to what they say are the failings of President Barack Obama.

The free event at S.C. State is open to the public.
