Putting the Brakes on Driving Violations

(WOLO) COLUMBIA, S.C., Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott says they’re Traffic Safety Unit will be beefing up patrols in two major intersections. Bull and Assembly streets, as well as Assembly and Elmwood where authorities say their has been a increase in the amount of red light runners, unlawful lane changers and speeding. Police say they plan to have patrols keeping a closer eye on those areas during the Morning and afternoon rush hours which when most of the violations and accident are occurring. Some area drivers say both of those intersections are so congested they’ll welcome new enforcement. Others, however say it is going to take more than an increased presence to change the intersections that some believe is just too confusing to manuver through. Columbia Police was not able to give specific numbers on the amount of incidents they have had in these areas, but tell us the increase in patrols will remain in place indefinitely.
