Security Cameras Installed in High Crime Area
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Columbia police are putting would-be criminals on notice. They will be watching more closely, specifically in what they say is the highest call volume area for crime, Eau Claire. Members of the North Columbia Business Association joined Columbia police and others this morning to unveil new security cameras in North Columbia. Twenty-three, high resolution cameras are being installed this week in Eau Claire and along North Main St. Each portable box contains four cameras pointing in all directions. Leaders say Eau Claire has been branded as a high crime area for too long, and they will no longer tolerate it. The video recoring system installed is the same one that led to arrests in an arson fire, dog thefts at a local animal shelter and the beating of a Columbia man. Leaders in North Columbia hope to have that same kind of success and see the rate of crime significantly drop.
