SC man gets 2 life sentences for killings
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife and her daughter’s fiance nearly 18 year ago.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/JRre1R) that 60-year-old Theodore Kelly was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences and 20 additional years for shooting and stabbing her daughter.
Kelly originally had been sentenced to die. A judge in 2003 took Kelly off of death row.
Imogene Kelly and Keith Epps were killed in June 1994. Tracey Smith was seriously injured in the attack.
The sentence by Circuit Court Judge Brooks Goldsmith was the maximum allowed under the law at the time of the crimes.
Kelly has been held at McCormick Correctional Institution. He could be eligible for parole in 2014 under the laws at the time.
