USC Battles Back To Win Wild Arkansas Opener 8-6

(WOLO) — “Battle” was the rallying cry for South Carolina’s back-to-back national champion baseball teams. The 2012 Gamecocks battled back in championship fashion Friday night, scoring 8 unanswered runs after falling behind 6-0 and won the series opener against Arkansas 8-6 in 10 innings. Evan Marzilli broke open a 6-6 tie in the 10th with an RBI double that scored Joey Pankake. Marzilli later scored in the inning. Matt Price came on to close out the Razorbacks in the bottom of the 10th to extend 3rd-ranked USC’s SEC winning streak to 12 games. L.B. Dantzler started the Gamecock scoring with an RBI double to right in the 4th. Grayson Greiner hit a 2-run home run in the 6th to cut the lead to 6-5. Joey Pankake’s sacrifice fly later in the inning scored Tanner English to tie the game at 6. The Gamecocks improve to 35-11, 15-7 in the SEC. Game two of the series is on ESPN2 at 1 p.m.
