Mother of missing SC toddler indicted for neglect

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A grand jury has indicted the mother of a missing South Carolina toddler in connection with his disappearance.

Richland County prosecutors said in a statement that a grand jury on Thursday indicted 23-year-old Zinah Jennings on a charge of unlawful neglect of a child. Jennings was arrested last December on a charge stemming from the disappearance of 18-month-old Amir Jennings.

At the time, authorities said they were desperately searching for Amir after his mother told them several inconsistent and false stories about the boy being with relatives and friends in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

The mother and son were reported missing in early December, but the mother turned up after she was involved in a car accident on Christmas Eve.
