Regional swimming programs coming to Lowcountry
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Mayors of three Lowcountry communities are scheduled to announce year-round, regional swimming programs in the Charleston area.
North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails are making the announcement on Friday.
As part of the program, Danny Jones Complex in North Charleston is being heated and enclosed to offer year-round swimming.
As part of the effort. the Logan Rutledge Children’s Foundation is launching a Lowcountry Aquatics Program with an emphasis on teaching children from lower income families to swim and to reduce the incidence of accidental drowning.
