SC Marine Corps jets set night flight training

MARINE CORPS AIR STATOIN BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Pilots from the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort are beginning three nights of noisy night-time takeoff and landing exercises.

Marine Corps spokesman Lance Cpl. R.J. Driver said the training begins Monday evening and lasts through Thursday of this week.

Driver says the training exercises continue on the same evenings next week and the second week in June.

The landing practice mimics the short bursts of speed made by planes landing on aircraft carriers at sea, and is noisier than usual training.

The landings are preparing pilots for an upcoming deployment. Marine leaders ask for the community’s support and patience during the exercises.
