Wofford…Dunlap Retiring

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) _ The president of Wofford College says he is going to retire at the end of the 2013 academic year. Benjamin Dunlap says he is announcing the move 14 months in advance so the college’s board of trustees can begin a search for a successor. Dunlap has served as the 10th president of the Spartanburg college since 2000. The former Rhodes Scholar, who earned a doctorate in English from Harvard, says he will return to the college as a humanities professor after taking a one-year sabbatical. School spokeswoman Laura Corbin says Dunlap increased full-time faculty from 84 to 127 while student rolls grew from 1,100 to 1,550. She says Dunlap helped the school average $12 million annually in gift income, far more than ever before.
