250-pound Bluffton High mascot statue swiped

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) — The 250-pound mascot of the Bluffton High football team has been swiped and it apparently took determined thieves to do so.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/K3SKcg ) the bobcat statue was taken last week from the school’s football stadium.

Football coach Ken Cribb says whoever did it must have had a truck, ladders and tools. He said the thieves would have had to jump a fence, climb atop a stadium tunnel then get through bolts and chains to lower the mascot. The statute was created by the parent of a football player.

While Cribb has reported the theft to police, he says the school is also willing to take the statue back — no questions asked.
