1 rally over, another under way on Grand Strand

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — The Harley-Davidson rally along South Carolina’s Grand Strand is over but bikers will continue roaring on area highways with the Atlantic Beach Bikefest already under way.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach (http://bit.ly/KJgfYG) reports vendor permits for the Harley rally expired Sunday and many merchants packed up their wares.

Organizers are still gauging the event’s success after confusion about the dates, debates over permits and odd-and-on rain.

Some proposed the Harley rally run through Memorial Day, while a biker website listed the dates as May 11-20 and Horry County issued vendor permits for May 14-20.

The Harley rally attracts mostly white bikers. The Atlantic Beach Bikefest is traditionally held over Memorial Day weekend and has been expanded this year. It generally attracts black bikers.
