Cherokee County man arrested in nephew’s death
GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a Gaffney man has been arrested in the shooting death of his nephew after an argument.
Gaffney police say 37-year-old Larry Phillips has been charged with murder.
Police say Phillips argued with his 23-year-old nephew, Jonathan Phillips, before shooting him around 6:15 p.m. Saturday at the home where they both lived.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says Jonathan Phillips died less than an hour later. Fowler says a passing motorist saw him run out of a house and collapse. The motorist called 911 and performed CPR.
It wasn’t clear if Larry Phillips had an attorney.
